Over the past three years, Providence has seen some of the highest average rent increases in the country. The average asking rent for a 2-bedroom apartment in Providence is now $2600. As a result, our community is getting priced out. Young people are moving away because they can no longer afford to live here. Evictions and homelessness rates are increasing. Meanwhile, the corporate landlords are raking in profits.

What are we going to do about it? We're helping to build a movement to make Providence affordable for all!

Our City Council is going to vote soon on a proposal for Rent Stabilization, which would put a limit on the amount by which landlords can raise the rent. The good news is that many City Councilors support the proposal. But the bad news is, several of them are still undecided. We need to make sure they hear from us, the people of Providence, that they must vote yes and stop the rent hikes.

We're holding a series of weekend canvasses to get the community engaged in the fight for stabilized rents. Come out and join us - all are welcome! We'll do a quick training, then we'll partner up to knock doors and talk to community members about Rent Stabilization. No canvassing experience necessary. Come on out and help us make the city we love more affordable!
